WEG: Endurance horse dies after tying up during event

An endurance horse who tied up at the beginning of the competition on Monday has been euthanised.

The horse, an 11-year-old Anglo Arab gelding named Dubai, was competing for Denmark with owner Ingelise Kristoffersen.

He suffered severe tying up (myopathy) and was treated on the spot and later moved to an equine clinic in Kerken, Germany, where his condition was described as stable on Tuesday. However Dubai's kidneys started to fail and after he failed to respond to intense treatment on Wednesday, was euthanised.

At the WEG in 2002, Jerez de la Frontera, two horses died during the endurance event.
