Weihaiwej, the Oldenburg mare which became as famous for her blue eyes as for her incredible results in competition (individual and team gold at the World Show Jumping Championships in 1994), is building a career as a “mom” in San Patrignano’s breeding farm.
Her seventh foal was born this morning (by embryo transfer) in the Rimini-based drug treatment community. The foal is a bay with a large white stripe across his face, and is by San Patrignano’s star jumper, S.P. Nadir.
In the last few years breeders and trainers have shown quite an interest in the blue eyed mare’s progeny. Tai, her first filly, was bought by French rider Philippe Rozier.
Banshi, a bay filly by Tlaloc, and Veihaiwej (Weihaiwej x Voltaire) were sold last July at San Patrignano’s first ever horse auction, held during the tenth edition of the community’s international Horse Show.
The sale of the two fillies (one was sold in France and the other in Denmark) garnered a total of €140,000.
Preparations are already underway for the community’s next auction, to be held during next year’s “Vincenzo Muccioli Challenge” next July 20-22. It’s a good bet that the remaining four offspring out of Weihaiwej in the community’s breeding farm will be the stars of the show.
