KWPN Eventer Sale in Boekelo

KWPN horses are playing an increasingly important role in international eventing.

For this reason, the organizers of Military Boekelo – Enschede and the KWPN have partnered to hold an auction for KWPN eventing horses at the CCI3* on Friday, October 11, 2013, in an effort to meet increasing international demand for KWPN horses for this growing discipline of the sport.

Robert Zandstra, Chairman of Military Boekelo – Enschede: “The entire international sport elite come to our event. Military Boekelo – Enschede takes its responsibilities seriously and invests annually in the development and innovation of the sport and its athletes. Our cooperation with the KWPN now makes it possible to shine the spotlight on the eventing sporthorse.”

On Thursday, August 15th, a committee will select horses at the KWPN Horse Days event in Ermelo to be auctioned on October 11th. The selection committee includes Jan Greve, a well-known veterinarian and breeder of numerous eventing horses; and Judy Bradwell, a top eventer from the UK. They will identify the most talented four- and five-year-old horses for eventing. Four-year-olds will be selected during an ability test offered for the first time this year. The test is not a competition but a platform for scouting talent early in a horse's career. Five-year-olds will be selected during the KNHS/KWPN championship for five-year-old eventers for the VSN Cup. Video clips of the selected horses will be available for viewing on www.kwpn.tv and the Military Boekelo – Enschede website prior to the auction.

This new initiative brings sport and breeding closer together. Johan Knaap, the director of the KWPN, is pleased with this new international sales platform for KWPN horses. “KWPN horses are doing better and better in the rankings for eventing. Several years ago, we introduced the championship for young eventers during the KWPN Horse Days, and now we're taking the next step. We
