Rider Oliver Townend falls at Rolex Kentucky

Going for the coveted Grand Slam of Eventing top British rider Oliver Townend fell Saturday at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event when his leading horse slipped. Townend was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital.

Rolex officials said Saturday afternoon that Townend, 27, had sustained multiple fractures but was conscious and talking when he was transported to UK. Late Saturday, a UK hospital spokeswoman said he was listed in fair condition.

His horse, Ashdale Cruise Master, was not injured in the fall.

After wins at Badminton and Burghley last year, Townend would take the Grand Slam and the $350,000 prize if he could win at Rolex Kentucky.
