Zara Phillips Equestrian of the Year
Eventing World Champion Zara Phillips has won this year’s HOYS Equestrian of the Year title, and the presentation is
to be screened at this year’s Horse of the Year Show Zara Phillips' outstanding achievements over the last 18 months have earned her the HOYS Equestrian of the Year trophy. Last year Zara won individual gold at the European Eventing Championships and this year went one step further to take gold at the World Equestrian Games. Zara received the HOYS trophy yesterday but the presentation was filmed and will be screened at the Horse of the Year Show which takes place next week (4-8 October) at the Birmingham NEC.
The HOYS trophy (depicting a grey horse on a globe) is traditionally awarded to a team or individual who has attained unique achievements in the equestrian world across all disciplines. This may involve an unsurpassed performance, a string of victories or in recognition of a lifetime achievement. Previous winners include Pippa Funnell, Leslie Law and Bill Bryan.
Zara is on her way to making eventing history – and bettering the achievements of her parents European Champion (1971) Princess Anne, and Olympic Gold (Munich in 1972) and Silver medallist (Seoul in 1988), Captain Mark Phillips.
