Breeders all over the world have been waiting for this news: Dante Weltino OLD will be available again at the Dressage Horse Performance Centre Lodbergen (DLZ) via fresh semen from 2025.
One of the world’s most successful dressage stallions, who reached the finals at two Olympic Games, two World Championships and four European Championships under his Swedish trainer and rider Therese Nilshagen, twice achieving team bronze and 13 top ten placings, and whose offspring have already achieved Olympic honours themselves, is retiring from the sport at the age of 17 – and is returning to stud.
The black Oldenburg Dante Weltino OLD, born at Olaf Bahls in Voigtsdorf/GER, is by Danone I – Welt Hit II – Noble Roi xx. His dam, state premium mare Rihanna, is a full sister to Olympic participant state premium aspirant Riwera de Hus OLD and a half-sister to show jumper Bundeschampion and Badenia winner Lumos by Lordanos.
Dante Weltino OLD started his career as reserve winner of his 2009 licensing in Vechta and subsequently placed in the Burg Cup and Louisdor Prize finals under DLZ head rider Therese Nilshagen.
In 2017, the pair won team bronze at the European Championships in Gothenburg/SWE and finished fourth (Freestyle) and fifth (Special) individually. At the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon/USA, they came fourth with the Swedish team. In the individual classification, they finished tenth. In 2019, they again took team bronze and good individual placings at the European Championships in Rotterdam/NED. In 2021, at the Olympic Games in Tokyo/JPN, she finished sixth with the team and 14th in the individual final – and eighth in both the Special and Freestyle at the European Championships in Hagen a.T.W., after Team Sweden had finished fourth.
Dante Weltino OLD and Therese Nilshagen finished the 2022 World Championships in Herning/DEN in fourth (Team), 13th (Special) and eleventh (Freestyle), and fourth (Team), eighth (Special) and sixth (Freestyle) at the 2023 European Championships in Riesenbeck. In their last championship appearance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris/FRA, they finished seventh with the team and 18th in the Freestyle.
‘We are very proud: Dante, as we call him here at home, exemplifies the quality of our stallions and the correct and equine training provided at the DLZ. In order to preserve him, we deliberately decided not to use him for breeding, despite huge demand. We are now delighted to be able to offer our breeders this outstanding stallion for their mares.’
