During the 50th edition of Indoor Brabant Dutch dressage legend Jerich Parzival will say farewell to international top sport. The impressive, now 20-year-old, gelding and his rider Adelinde Cornelissen will be together for the last time for the public. The official farewell will take place in the Brabanthal on 11 March at 3.30 pm during the interval of the World Cup Dressage Freestyle.
Parzival and Adelinde go back a long way and can look back on a very successful career, which started in 2002 when Parzival arrived at Adelinde’s stable. With the support of her team, among others with Johan Hamminga and Sjef Janssen, they reached, with ups and downs, the top.
Success
The first success came in 2007 when they became indoor Dutch Big Tour Champions followed by the outdoor Dutch Championships title in 2008. They were a solid value for the Dutch dressage team from 2008 till 2016 (except in 2015). During their first European Championship in Windsor, Great Britain, in 2009, they made an important contribution to the gold team medal, but they also won individual gold in the Grand Prix Special (with a new world record of 84.042%) and silver in the Freestyle. The combination won team gold at the 2010 World Championships and in 2011 Adelinde and Parzival won the European title in the Grand Prix Special and the Freestyle in Rotterdam. The Dutch team won the bronze medal. The same year the pair also won the World Cup Final.
2012: peak year
2012 was a peak year: gold in the World Cup Final, which was held during Indoor Brabant, and an individual silver (Freestyle) and bronze medal (Grand Prix Special) and team silver at the Olympic Games in London. In the years after they also won individual silver (Freestyle) and bronze (Grand Prix Special) and team silver at the European Championships in Herning in 2013 and individual (Freestyle) and team bronze at the World Championships in Caen in 2014.
Happy memories
Jerich Parzival and Adelinde can look back on a great sports career and during the farewell dressage fans can enjoy all highlights one more time together with all who were involved with this very successful pair. “I wanted to give Parzival a farewell in the Netherlands and I have happy memories at Indoor Brabant. We celebrated many successes here together, including winning the World Cup Final,” said Adelinde.
