Belgian Grand Prix rider Jeroen Devroe on Monday, 1st December lost 14 year old Rheinland bred Paganini (Pavarotti van de Helle x Sheyenne de Baugy) due to colic.
Paganini was the very first horse that Jeroen schooled himself to all successes in international sports. “His power became his
weakness”, Jeroen Devroe said. “Paganini has been competing without rest and pause for ten or eleven years and never had any problem. He liked to
work and always kept his mood up. His body was not used to a lack of work, which became necessary after a tendon problem. To me this is the
explanation why medication caught him and made him weak. His body could not cope with the pause in training. The loss affects me deeply, much
more that I had ever thought it would.”
Devroe doesn’t want to talk about other chances and horses. “It’s not the one or the other for me. I lost the friend that introduced me into international dressage.”
