Nagore Otaño in tragic accident

Twenty six year old Nagore Otaño died on Sunday evening at San Sebastián Hospital (Spain) after suffering a fall earlier in the afternoon during the second race of the fifth day of the summer season. The young jockey suffered a broken neck when she fell from 'La Chaparrita', and was pronounced dead minutes after being admitted.

Nagore Otaño made her debut on the same race course on the 5th June 2005, on board 'Jackson', which won yesterday's sixth race. She was riding in just the ninth race of her fledgling career.

As a mark of respect, all the riders taking part in the season's premier race, the Gold Cup, that will be held this Wednesday, will wear black armbands and a minute's silence will be held in her memory.
