Changes proposed for Equestrian at Rio 2016

The FEI is proposing significant changes to the qualification procedures for the next Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 as well as the structure of some Olympic competition.

The proposals will be discussed at the FEI Sport Forum in Switzerland on 8-9 April 2013 with final decisions being made by National Federations at the FEI General Assembly in November 2013.

Of most significance are the proposed reduction in the size of Eventing teams from 5 combinations to 4 (with 1 reserve combination permitted, but no individuals); the increase in numbers of Dressage combinations from 50 to 60 and the return to 2 possibilities to quality teams (from FEI World Equestrian Games and other FEI Championships and approved events).
