Horses take to Paris to protest ban

On last Sunday, fourteen young women on horseback rode through the streets of Paris to protest against a longstanding ban on horses in the French Capital.

Their protest made national news, with the riders entering the city and riding down the Champs Elysees, then on to the Louvre. They picnicked by the Seine River.

Police talked to the riders but allowed them to continue to the Paris fringe.

Even horse-drawn carriages are banned from Paris. The only horses permitted in the city belong to a small mounted police unit.

The protesters argue that allowing horses into Paris would help reinforce the city's romantic image.
