Burghley fans flee in terror from tractor

Terrified spectators were forced to scatter as a runaway tractor caused mayhem in a car park at a major equestrian championships.

The Burghley Horse Trials took place at Burghley House near Stamford this weekend attracting a host of the biggest names in three day eventing.

But it was action taking place away from the course that caused the biggest stir, with a number of spectators lucky to escape serious injury.

The drama began when a large tractor was called to fence 15 where the Harry Meade, riding Dunauger, had just fallen at about 11.45am on Saturday.

The driver of the tractor had gone to work on the fence, when the handbrake failed and the tractor careered into a car park, causing thousands of pounds of damage to at least three cars.
