Disney has debuted the trailer for Secretariat
Disney has debuted the official trailer for Secretariat starring Diane Lane as Penny Chenery, owner of the racehorse Secretariat, who won the Triple Crown in 1973, and is who the movie is about. This definitely looks like another one of those feel good Disney movies, kind of like Seabiscuit meets Miracle. In addition to Lane, this also stars John Malkovich, Scott Glenn and James Cromwell, so there is at least a good cast. This does look like it has a great story and it was shot beautifully, so I'm interested in that aspect, but I guess I'm just not a horseracing fan enough to care otherwise. Malkovich does look like he'll steal the show, though.
Secretariat is directed by Randall Wallace, who is also a screenwriter and an occasional director with only the films The Man in the Iron Mask and We Were Soldiers to his credit so far. The screenplay was written by Mike Rich, of Finding Forrester, The Rookie, Radio, and The Nativity Story previously. This is based on the real story of the racehorse Secretariat, an American Thoroughbred who became the first U.S. Triple Crown champion in twenty-five years, setting race records on two of the three tracks that still stand today. Disney will be bringing Secretariat to theaters everywhere starting on October 8th this fall.
