Dressage donkey wows the crowds

Seville-born Carlos Román has managed to get his donkey “Caramelo” to master classic dressage moves, normally associated with horses, something which has never been seen before.

The donkey, which is almost six years old and lives in Montellano (Seville) together with his “girlfriend” “Piruleta”, can do pirouettes with his rider dressed as a “bandolero” and has done shows at a number of events in Andalucía.

His rider says that when he finishes his show (for which he charges 300 euros) most people “throw their hands up in surprise cover the donkey in kisses, because they cannot believe that such an unrefined animal can do these kinds of moves”.

Román describes the donkey, which was given to him by a friend, as “like a son to me – he's not for sale”, confirming that he has already turned down an offer of 6,000 euros for the animal.

Used to training horses, Román decided to try and teach some classic dressage moves to the donkey, as a bit of fun, not because he thought he was particularly gifted.

He did his first show after seven months of training, showing off his skills in Montellano's 'Escuela de Arte Ecuestre', and awakening huge interest amongst all the people watching.
