Exhibition of English photographer Tim Flach – EQUUS
Starting January 15 Câmara dos Azuis – Arte & Antiguidades presents un exhibition of the English photographer Tim Flach – EQUUS.
The exhibition will be held until February 10, Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm.
Tim Flach was born in London in 1958 and studied fine art at Central St. Martin's
College of Art and Design. After focusing on photography, he has gone on to see his work win numerous awards and be exhibited and discussed around the world.
He is best known for the originality that he brings to capturing animal behaviour and characteristics. In this, he is often exploring the close relationship between animals and humans, in particular how humanity imposes and reveals its ideals when trying to understand and work with animals.
This exhibition is selected from photographs created for Tim Flach’s new book EQUUS, published last October by Abrams. The product of five years of work, the images provide an amazing and unique insight into the physical dynamics and spirit of the horse.
Flach’s quest to document the horse has resulted in a highly original and searching look at an animal whose history is linked intensely to our own from the birth of mankind.
With unparalleled access to remarkable horses, Flach’s shoots have ranged from exquisiteb Arabians in the Royal Yards of the United Arab Emirates to purebred Icelandic horses in their glacial habitat; from the soulful gaze of a single horse’s lash-lined eye to the development of the horse from the embryo stage.
We see the world of equus as solitary subject and en masse, from the air and from underwater, tame and wild and in birth, life and death.
It is a visual journey that is both stunning in its beauty and ultimately highly provocative in the questions it asks of us.
