Horse freed from icy river

A horse in Leicestershire, Great Britain, has been rescued from an icy river after a three hour fight.

Firefighters freed the trapped horse after it went looking for water and broke through a fence in Melton.

Unfortunately, the horse had to be put down later on by a vet as the struggle took its toll on horse health.

This part of the country has seen extreme weather conditions over the last month, with many trapped in their homes during December.

The freezing temperatures in the midlands and high snow volumes have meant that many horses and ponies have not been able to be taken out as much as they could be.
