Michael Benjamin’s two-year suspension to stand

The FEI Tribunal's two-year suspension of South African show jumper Michael Benjamin has been upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Benjamin was disqualified from the CSI-W Cape Town Event in November 2006, for refusing to provide a urine sample when randomly selected for an anti doping test.

The suspension began on June 1, 2007 and not October 27, 2007 as originally stipulated by the FEI Tribunal.

The CAS decision confirms the FEI Tribunal's interpretation of the World Anti-Doping Code which does not allow for the reduction of a two-year suspension when the anti-doping violation is a refusal to submit to sample collection.
