Woman trampled by horse
The authorities say a 43-year-old woman is recovering at a Portland hospital after she was trampled by a horse in Clackamas County.
Amy Erickson told a sheriff's deputy that a horse's hoof had become stuck in the track for a stable door. When she freed him, the frightened horse kicked her in the head and stomped her.
Erickson, bleeding and vomiting, used a cell phone to call 9-1-1. The reception was so poor that dispatchers could only make out a handful of words.
But the sheriff's office says the dispatchers were able to piece together enough clues to send the deputy to the correct spot.
Paramedics from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue administered first aid, and Erickson was taken by helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition from injuries to her head, chest and abdomen.
