Leprevost wins the Leipzig Championship
So far it has been the weekend of the French show-jumpers. Following on from Kevin Staut's success on Friday evening, now his partner Pénélope Leprevost has won a stylish Citroen car in the Leipzig Championship at PARTNER PFERD. Sweden's Henrik von Eckermann took second place, ahead of 24 year-old German rider Jan Wernke.
All three riders were sitting in the saddles of sport horses who are descendants of highly-successful sires. 33 year-old Leprevost, who won a silver medal with the French team at the 2010 World Championships, won in a lightning-fast 32.81 seconds in the jump-off with Flora de Mariposa, a nine-year-old daughter of For Pleasure. Wernke, who came third, was riding nine-year-old Forry Deluxe, a son of For Pleasure. And both horses, as their riders emphatically confirm – take after their father in their tendency to excel. Henrik von Eckermann once again delivered two remarkable rounds with 13 year-old Gotha FRH, a daughter of Ludger Beerbaum's Olympic horse Goldfever.
A truly thrilling test led to a fast-paced jump-off, which on its own brought 7,500 spectators to the stands. And in the surrounding trade fair and in front of the video screens, hoards of visitors to PARTNER PFERD found themselves gripped. On Saturday, in Halls 1 and 3, around 14,000 spectators answered the call of PARTNER PFERD.
The final qualification in the FEI World Cup Vaulting in Leipzig ended with a German victory in the Pas de Deux. Pia Engelberty (Neuss) and Torben Jacobs (Düsseldorf) managed to secure the full number of points in this fifth and final chance ahead of the finals in Bordeaux.
In the individual competition, it was overall World Cup title-holder Anna Cavallero from Italy who dominated amongst the women. The favourite does not want to change her freestyle, but does want to “work on the harmony with the music”. Lukas Heppler from Switzerland, who was taking part in Leipzig for the third time, once again expressed how fantastic he had found the experience, and Pia Engelberty and Torben Jacobs truly shone under the spotlights. The Pas de Deux is a new part of the World Cup programme. “It's really important that the Pas de Deux be integrated in the World Cup, as it is still a relatively young discipline in vaulting,” said medical student Jacobs. And Leipzig's audience yet again provided an impressive backdrop. Since the World Cup finals in 2011, vaulting has been a firm favourite in the PARTNER PFERD programme. From Leipzig, the equestrian acrobats will be heading to the finals of the FEI World Cup Vaulting in Bordeaux from 7th to 8th February.
